Text: Romans 12:1

“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.”

A lot of times I have asked myself this question, what does God expect in return for all he does for me? Yes, we know God has no need and he is lacking nothing because he has everything.

But God craves our fellowship, he hungers for it. In the book of Genesis, the bible recorded that in the cool of the day the Lord God visited Adam like a friend will visit his friend. But after Adam failed God, the fellowship with man was broken.

God still wants man back to himself as a friend just like when he first created him. But this time presenting oneself to God as a living sacrifice. A sacrifice is something offered to a deity, dead and often burnt by fire.

If we say we are dead, then everything carnal and all the flesh longs for will be of no pleasure to us, we are no longer drawn to fleshy things (like the forbidden fruit). Then being alive means our spirit is connected to God and we are living just as he wants us to.

When we become a living sacrifice, we now ascend the place of constant fellowship with God where our minds are renewed daily. God expects this from us.
