Make Your Choice

1Kings 18:21, Matthew 6:28
“And Elijah came to all the people, and said, “How long will you alter between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow Him; but if Baal, follow him”.

“No one can serve two masters: for either he will hate one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon”.

Elijah summons the people of Israel together, asking them to choose whom they will serve, knowing their hearts have wandered away from the Lord. Everyone on earth has the power of choice. Yes, God has created us, and His Will is for us to be like Him. Yet, He gave us the privilege to make our own choice on whom to serve.

It’s simply impossible to serve two masters at a time, or else we won’t be faithful to either or, both of them. God is not interested in a double-minded life. This was what the Children of Israel did that made God send His word to them through the prophet Elijah. They forsook the commandments of God and followed Baal (an idol). Whenever there is trouble, they run back to God again.

In our world today, anything could be an idol. It’s not necessarily a carved image or a moulded shrine. Whatever we place above God or whatever has taken the place of God has become an idol in our hearts. Like phone has taken the place of quiet time for a lot of Christians today,  especially the youth. Likewise Sin, Money, Career, and other things.

Every child of God should stand for God and not create an harmonious relationship with God. Our profession of Christ must be devoid of selfish ambition. Just as Elijah stand for God despite all odds, we are to take our stand on God as well.

Conclusion: Make a wise choice to serve God wholeheartedly today.
